About Williams Electronic Games Inc.

In 1943, Stanford Engineering graduate, Harry Williams, founded the company in Chicago.

Having an engineering background helped Williams design the first electronic pinball machine and devise the tilt mechanism.

At first, Williams Games manufactured fortune-telling machines, as they were popular at that time.

After that, the company started remaking some old pinball machines by changing their artwork and other elements in the game. However, in 1964, Williams Games manufactured their first all-original pinball machine, Suspense.

By the mid-80s, Williams Electronic Games was one of the biggest names in the pinball industry. However, alongside a broader industry decline in the 1990s, Williams would eventually close its pinball division by the end of the decade in order to focus on other lines of business, like slot machines.
